For this 3-bedroom apartment in the iconic Aurora Place by the Genoa-based practice of Renzo Piano Building Workshop, our brief was to make a family-friendly home that could meet changing needs of a family over time.
The main spatial intervention was relocating the kitchen towards the building core, prioritising a larger dining area as the central congregational space. The master bedroom was turned into a secondary living area/play room, and the remaining sleeping wing reconfigured with operable partition walls allowing rooms to expand or contract.
For increased storage, we added a significant joinery element spanning the full apartment length, gathering within it banquette seating, a TV credenza, display shelving and storage. A quiet material palette of stone and clear-finished oak offers a neutral background for furnishings that may change over time, while softly complementing the building’s signature terracotta cladding.
